Supporting local business

Hello and a warm welcome from the chairman of Cliftonville Partnership Damien Cooke who has been trading in Northdown Road for over 17 years. We are pleased to offer this exciting Cliftonville Partnership Website which gives you information and advice. The aim of the partnership is to improve the Cliftonville area with the help of local businesses and promote the area as a whole.

Cliftonville is a coastal area situated to the east of the main town of Margate. It also contains the area known as Palm Bay. The original Palm Bay estate was built in the 1930s as a number of large, wide avenues with detached and semi-detached houses. This area still remains one of the most desirable places to live in Cliftonville.

West Cliftonville was originally developed as a tourist area containing largely small private hotels and guest houses which catered for the many visitors to what was in the first half of the twentieth century the thriving holiday resort of Margate. In recent years there has been a large amount of regeneration and many buildings have been converted into blocks of attractive one and two bedroom apartments. In addition some hotels and guest houses remain catering for those still looking for that most English of seaside holidays. These include a hotel with a museum overlooking a bowling green and a newly refurbished hotel that caters for larger wedding and social events.

The seafront area once included many large hotels, including at one time a large Butlins hotel which has now become a state of the art McCarthy and Stone retirement complex. The shopping area of Cliftonville is called Northdown Road and includes a number of main banks and building societies, larger corporate concerns including Boots and Tescos, a number of family run specialist shops including an award winning art gallery, a Post Office, several pubs, many coffee shops and cafés, two churches and Award winning estate and letting agents as well as an award winning media company Pixel Circus all along its two mile length.

In recent years a number of quality restaurants have opened which cater for all types of palette from traditional fish and chips to gourmet Indian or Thai, Cliftonville has it all. The traders in this area are always keen to go out of the way to help and give you that personal service so lacking in today’s out of town culture. Need a relaxing beauty treatment, repair or buy a bike, buy a home, have a meal, then Northdown Road is the place to visit.

Cliftonville also has an indoor ten pin bowling alley and sports bar, tennis courts, a bandstand with regular events including a farmers market, a crazy golf course, a pitch and putt course, bowling green and the famous Winter Gardens Theatre. There is also a nightclub to boogie the night away. Cliftonville has a lot to offer, come and visit us today to find out more.
